Why Medical Contact Lenses?

Medical contact lenses have a number of uses and not only help you see clearly but also support your eye health.

Different types of medical lenses can help address vision issues like keratoconus, dry eyes, and other eye and vision issues. At Carolina Eye Doctors, we feature EyePrintPRO, ortho-k, and even Ovitz to help determine what lenses will suit your needs.

Our team takes pride in offering solutions that can help you see clearly and comfortably.

Our Specialty & Medical Contact Lenses

Our wide selection of specialty and medical contact lenses helps ensure that you’ll be able to find something that works for your unique visual needs.

EyePrintPRO is a transparent prosthetic scleral device designed to the exact contours of your individual eyes, providing clear vision and comfort through custom contact lenses. The EyePrintPRO captures the unique irregularities of your eyes and can be used to successfully fit where other lenses and devices fail.

For more information, take a look at our EyePrintPRO treatment page!

Scleral contact lenses are a great option for those who may not be able to wear contacts due to issues like dry eye disease and keratoconus.

Scleral lenses feature a larger design than traditional lenses and rest on the sclera, the white of your eyes. Scleral lenses vault over the cornea, creating a fluid reservoir to provide extra hydration and breathability.

Orthokeratology, also known as ortho-k, uses customized rigid gas-permeable contact lenses to gently shape your cornea overnight, reducing your dependence on glasses during the day.

Ortho-k is an excellent option for adults and children with mild to moderate myopia (nearsightedness).

For more information, take a look at our Ortho-k page.

Aspheric contact lenses are designed to improve the average spherical aberration in traditional lenses and the human eye. Spherical aberration refers to the inability of a lens to focus light on a common point.

Aspheric lenses provide more precise light guidance than spheric lenses. In contrast to spherical lenses, aspheric contacts feature a changing curvature that reduces blur, improves depth perception, and enhances contrast sensitivity.

Toric contact lenses help correct astigmatism and are available in soft and RGP designs.

Toric lenses contain multiple powers, one vertical and the other horizontal. The bottom of the lens is weighted, allowing the lenses to center on the eye correctly. Toric contacts require a precise fit, and our team can help during the fitting process.

Multifocal contact lenses feature 2 distinct lens powers for near and distant vision. Multifocal lenses help correct presbyopia and reduce the need for reading glasses.

Multifocal contact lenses are available in soft and RGP options and can also be used to slow the progression of myopia in children.

Hybrid contact lenses are rigid gas-permeable lenses surrounded by a soft outer ring. Hybrid lenses correct refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia.

Hybrid lenses also help correct keratoconus, which is an irregular curvature of the cornea.

The Ovitz system helps address both myopia and higher-order aberrations (HOA), which are complex distortions that affect your vision. HOAs are associated with corneal diseases like keratoconus and post-LASIK complications.
